Finally.... some Camp photos!!!

Thanks heaps to Shana Jones for all these amazing photos. It has taken a while to go through all 280 or so of them. We would love to have any feedback from you, especially parents who went, or those of you who were a little anxious about the whole concept. It would be helpful to share this with our new parents next year. We think it was a huge success, but I'm sure there are improvements we could make.

Giving to the Cathedral

After our Bake Sale (see previous posts) we needed to take the money we raised to the people at the Cathedral so that they would put it towards building a new one or replacing an old one.

One group wanted their money to go towards the new gardens that would have to be built around the Cathedral.

Here we are giving our money to Mr Chris Oldham who works for the Cathedral. He told us lots of things about the Cathedral and he was in the offices at the back when the big earthquake happened.
This is a picture of the Cathedral from where we were standing. It is a long way away.

Balance Bikes at Camp

Balance bikes are cool but first go is hard. We went on the balance bikes on Thursday and Friday. Balance bikes don't have a  steering wheel, you use your body to steer. You pedal. You hold on to handle bars.

GKR Nationals

Hi. On Friday I went on a plane to Auckland with Madi. We weren't the only ones going up. When we arrived at the hotel we had to get a room. I was with Vicky and Sam. For tea we ordered Hells pizza. I got meat lovers. Once I had a piece my tongue started to BURN! I ran to get some water. About 5 mins later I had to get to bed. Next morning I got my clothes on and we headed to the the GKR nationals. I made a new friend. Next thing you know Brooke and Aunty Viv are there. I wondered how they got there. ''Plane'' and my grandparents where there too!!! I was confused. Anyway, after that we bowed in and I went to my ring. I was competing in Kumite (sparing). I won a Gold Medal. I am the National Champion for my age group - 8-9 year olds.

Inquiry Taking Action

This term we are learning about DIY Rescue. Some of us did a bake sale to raise money for important buildings which got damaged in the earthquake.
Some people did a bake sale which was lots of fun. One positive thing was that we raised more than we thought.  Thanks to the Cathedral now I love cooking!  Now here is a list of how much all of the other people raised...
Alex, Grace and Lily (me)$79.20 and we are saving the Cathedral.
Stella, Zoe, Bree and Alyssa $81.50 and they are saving Q.EII.
Brooke, Hamish, Petrea, Trinity and Annie $60.00 and they are using it for a lovely garden.
Brianna $105.10 and she wants to see a Kaiapoi swimming complex.
Dylan, Lachie, Jayden, Mitchell and Daniel $90.00 - they want a bmx track in Kaiapoi.
Kyle P, Kyle S and Wills $100.20 - they want to see a swimming complex.
Courtney, Ben and Jared $26.00 they want a bigger and better library in Kaiapoi.

Athletics

                                                   Athletics

Have  you  done  Athletics before? At  Clarkville School we practice Athletics.  When  we  do Athletics, we  practice  high  jump, long jump, discus, shot put, sprints  and distance running. There  are  groups  of   small  and big  kids  and that's the group  you're in. Everybody gets a turn at each station.

Playground

Yay the new playground will be open soon. We can't wait to play on it! It's right beside our classroom!   Come on, let's  play on it. Come on.

Practising for Athletics

This week we have been training for amazing athletics day. There is a seven year old group and and an eight - nine year old group. We have been practising sprinting for long jump and sprints and stretches for the rest. For the eight year olds the day Ms Brocket thought that Chris was right when  he said "Thursday this week" we were meant to practise. But he meant next week and we had come back to class imimediately! What a tiring day and that was not all we had to run around the field twice!

Lucky Lunch

Well done to all our students who donated their own money today at our Lucky Lunch. We raised $297.40!!! This money will go to the Kids Can charity who will ensure that it feeds the kids who come to school hungry. Our day was made even more special by a visit from the Campbell Live crew. Keep your eyes on your tv to spot our Clarkville Stars!
