Please remind your children that spud in a bucket judging happens TOMORROW (Thursday)!!

Children need to bring their NAMED buckets and a plastic bag (tied to the handle) to school, and put it in the vege garden area. (Sue and Lynley can you please ensure that they are all put in the same area rather than haphazardly thrown in the general direction!) Jane Watts will be coming in to judge them and announce the lucky cup winner!

Thanks and whoops!!

Many, many thanks to all the fabulous parents who joined us on camp last week. You were absolute legends and without your support we would not be able to run school camps. We had an awesome time and the learning that happened will be invaluable.
This is what my iphone looks like after being run over multiple times outside school during the weekend. Consequently all the camp photos I took are lost forever! If any parents who came on camp with us have photos they could share with us we would greatly appreciate it.

Digital Connection Questionnaire

Digital Connection Questionnaire

The aim of this questionnaire is to collect some information about the connection habits of families and whanau here at Clarkville School. All responses will be confidential and there is no way of identifying individuals and their responses. The whole questionnaire should take between 5-10 minutes. We will be using this information to identify how easy it would be for children to connect with our learning when they are not at school and what support you may need as parents. We are planning to run some parent information sessions and would like this feedback to help us to plan.

Finding Out

Note for parents re Finding Out

On Monday and Tuesday we are having our Finding Out sessions for Inquiry. This term’s theme is Design your Dream and in the Finding Out sessions your child/children will be designing something to solve a problem in the school.
Monday will be the design day and Tuesday is the making prototypes day.
We would really appreciate any materials you might have that would be useful for making the prototypes on Tuesday: cereal boxes, cardboard tubes (NO toilet rolls please), wool, material, etc. Could you please send these materials on the Tuesday and NOT BEFORE as we don’t have storage space.

Thank you

Holidays

Brrr!!! A chilly walk in Arrowtown at -5 degrees this morning. Hope everyone has been keeping warm and doing lots of fun holiday activities.
We are looking forward to being back on Monday, still in the MPF, but hopefully lots more progress on our new building. We have two trainee teachers with us for five weeks, so make sure you say hello and welcome them into the Clarkville family.
Now is a good time to check whether you have enough stationery to begin the new term. Especially those pencils that keep disappearing with alarming rapidity.

Open (Thursday)

Yay WE ARE BACK IN ACTION TOMORROW- looking forward to seeing all our learners back.

Learning at Home

This is what school was looking like yesterday. It looks a lot better today. Do you have some great pictures you could make into a display or book using pic-collage or book creator or similar apps? Share them with us by e-mailing and we could print them off for tomorrow.

We have had to go back to Mrs Edwards house today to post these because the internet is down at school.

We hope that you, being clever Discover learners and so great at managing your own learning, have already been finding learning activities for yourselves at home such as Mathletics, DEAR, DAWN, and Stepping Stones. We have already received a Stepping Stone this morning.

Please remember you can e-mail us as we are available all day. If you have a device that has been logged on to Blogger at school you will be able to post things on our blog too. Remember to check your spelling and punctuation before you post.

It is Thursday tomorrow so don't forget to sign in then take your box and bag to Aspire. Mrs Blatch and Mrs Taylor will be there to meet you. They will be there from 8.40am. Whero group, you are working with Mrs Blatch tomorrow and Pango, you will be seeing the other specialist teachers.

Have a great day
Ms B, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Taylor

Closed Wednesday - Septic Tank

Dear Parents
After taking advice, the Board of Trustees have decided that school will remain closed again tomorrow ( Wednesday). The septic system is at capacity due to the high water table and can not be accessed for emptying until water levels have receded somewhat. Until this tank is emptied use of the toilet facilities will pose a health risk. We are anticipating the tank will be able to be emptied mid to late morning tomorrow

To assist in reducing the interruption to learning children and parents may access learning activities through the team blogs from 9.30am tomorrow and staff will be available for assistance via email or blog posts during school hours.

We appreciate your support in this unusual situation and hope to be up and operational again on Thursday morning.
Thank you.

Pene

Flooding

Sorry no school today as mr j says even gumboots won't cut it!

Cross Country

How is your cross country sponsorship going? Keep asking your friends and family to "back you" in the Clarkville Cross Country Race!

CROSS COUNTRY PARENT HELP-
I desperately need more marshals out on the Senior course for next weeks cross country, currently I am about 10 people short... Please email k.morrison@clarkville.school.nz if you are able to offer your assistance. It is vital to have adults out on the senior course as it is near water, and in a public place.

Thank you!

Back To School

We hope you are all feeling rested and enjoying the sunshine after so much rain!! Thought we might have to start building an ark instead of a new learning space. We have been spending much of this week getting our temporary home in the MPF organised and are feeling very excited. We look forward to welcoming everyone back into our Term 2 space. We will be using our assembly side door entrance to access the space and would recommend that children bring slippers to wear inside during this term.
Please check your child's supply of stationery to make sure they start the term with everything they will need for their learning.
Ms B on Stewart Island

Finally we have a request for our Tuning In to inquiry day, which will be on Friday 9 May. We need cardboard boxes, blankets, tarpaulins, and parent help. This activity will run from 9.30 until lunch time and children will be with their buddy group. Please bring any resources and offers of help next week.

Our Renovations!

17/4/14

Dear  Discover Families

As mentioned in the newsletter today we are very excited to officially announce that the rennovation work on Rooms 3 and 4 to make them a whole Discover space are finally getting underway in the holidays.

This has been a very long winded exercise with the Ministry of Education taking some time to be convinced of the project however we are now ready to begin work.

Your children may tell you of the moving that occurred today so as of the beginning of next term the DISCOVER learning team will be situated in the Multi Purpose Facility . This is of course only a temporary measure. The builders tell us the work should be completed all going to plan in 10-12 weeks which takes us to the beginning of Term 3.

So when you arrive back at school remember to head for the Multi Purpose Facility and Ms B and Mrs Edwards will have everything set up ready to go.
We thank you for managing this inconvenience for next term and look forward with excitement to seeing the finished rooms as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

Pene Abbie
