Lost property
Unfortunately this is a perennial problem! We have a huge amount of unnamed property, which has now gone down to the Library lost property. We also have some students who have lost sweatshirts, jackets and hats, even though they are named. Please check at home to make sure you have the right clothing, and if you are missing anything we suggest you check the Library basket.

Calling All Keen Councillors!
Are you organised, confident, enthusiastic and creative? Then you should be standing for the Clarkville Student Council to become a CHOICE councillor (Confident Heroes Organising Incredibly Creative Events) and represent Team Discover.
You need to prepare a 1 minute presentation saying why YOU would be the best person for the job.

Oops you might need to read this one lying on your side.
MINT Think Tank Applications are open
Want to join the MINT THINK TANK? A group of creative, out of the box, curriculum experts that help the teachers to run the school? Then you need to prepare a speech that is at least one minute long and present it in front of the MINT team next Friday (7 March) at 1.20pm. You can make posters / powerpoints if you want to, but you do not have to. More information will be delivered to your team on Monday morning.

Trip to town
What a fabulous day in town. We saw lots of interesting things in the museum and asked a lot of questions. Banksy made us think with his pictures.
The weather was kind to us and off we went to look at the Festival of Flowers amongst other art instalments.

Technology Frustration
Isn't technology a wonderful thing when it's working? We thank you all for your patience and understanding over the last week or more while we have had no internet. We know how frustrating it is when things aren't on the blog when you want them to be. Hopefully the gnomes who were in the office today when we left know how to fix the problem and we'll be back up and running again by tomorrow.
Cheers

Cities are like puzzles
Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquake. This was written by one of our Year 8 boys to commemorate the anniversary in Assembly this morning.
Three years ago when the door was the haven from the crumbling floor, our strength was strained and courage crushed, beams buckled, buildings broke, we needed a light. After the earthquake, aftershocks struck, liquefaction leaked along with our stories. Cats ran, dogs strayed and howled, hoarders gathered their shattered treasures off the ground. The world had dug us a very deep hole. There were casualties, and in our hearts were scars for life.
But cities are like puzzles, except you choose the pieces to fill the holes, and the more people helping the faster it grows. Now is the time to think about what piece you will or already have contributed to help this city get on its feet!

Mini-ball
MiniBall
There is an opportunity for our Year 3 and 4 children to be involved in a Miniball competition to be held in the Ohoka School Hall on a Tuesday after school.
It would cost $30 a player and there needs to be 8 players in each team.
There would need to be a parent taking responsibility for the team.
If you would like to know more the poster is in Wharehui or talk to either Lynley or Sue.

Holidays
While Ms B is playing in the cold I have been in the North Island catching up with family. We have been to Hot Water Beach and up the Sky Tower. Here is a picture of my English nieces leaning on the glass on the observation deck and some one jumping off the side of the tower.

Hello again from the U.S of A
Well we survived the BIG STORM, which in actual fact was not as bad as we thought it would be, but definitely colder than in NZ. Here are some pics from New York. We have now arrived in Washington, just as the next big storm is due to arrive.
Hope you are all enjoying the holidays, wherever you may be.

We've Arrived!
Well we've had our first day in New York - what an incredible amount of people. Times Square was our first place to visit and it was teeming. Then my camera ran out of battery! We had our first hotdogs - a bit disappointing, but hopefully they'll get better. It is not nearly as cold as we thought, although we are supposed to get some snow on Thursday. My camera is all charged up now and ready for a new day.
